If semen comes out after a man has performed ghusl

Question: After performing ghusl, if there occurs seminal discharge, is it necessary for a man to reperform the ghusl?
ANSWER
Let us explain it according to the four madhhabs:

In the Hanaf and Hanbal Madhhabs,
if the semen that leaves its place lustfully comes out later for any reason, even without lust, he has to make a ghusl. For this reason, it is necessary to sleep for a while or to urinate and thereby wash out the semen that has remained in the urethra.

It is necessary to perform ghusl when semen both leaves its place and comes out lustfully. As to the semen that leaves its place lustfully but comes out after ones lust has subsided, in such a case, it is necessary to perform ghusl according to Imm-i Azam and Imm-i Muhammad. The fatw agrees with this. However, in this situation, ghusl is not necessary according to Imm-i Ab Ysuf. In case of a darrat or necessity, it is permissible to follow the report of Imm-i Ab Ysuf. For example, if the performance of ghusl is difficult due to cold weather or at a house where a person has been a guest, if a man who has a nocturnal emission in his dream wakes up and squeezes his penis so that the semen is prevented from coming out and thus semen comes out after his lust has subsided, then it is not necessary to make a ghusl.

In the Shfi Madhhab, if semen comes out after performing ghusl, he must make a ghusl again even if he has urinated. For in the Shfi Madhhab, it is necessary to perform ghusl again if the semen that has left its place leaks even without lust.

In the Mlik Madhhab, if semen comes out after performing ghusl, he does not have to make a ghusl again, even if he has not urinated. Because in the Mlik Madhhab, ghusl is not necessary if semen issues without lust. But since a junub person who is in the Hanaf Madhhab but who imitates the Mlik Madhhab does not leave the Hanaf Madhhab, such a person has to urinate and wash out the semen that has remained in urethra before performing ghusl.
